What is JCI Manchester?
JCI Manchester is a voluntary personal development organisation for young professionals and entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 45.
It is a local organisation that is part of a much larger dynamic global network called Junior Chamber International (JCI). JCI is a worldwide federation of young leaders and entrepreneurs with over 250,000 active members in over 100 countries.
JCI Manchester aims to develop the skill set of its members by organising events in their own free time, focused on business, training, community, social and international aspects.
The list of millions of alumni who obtained their informal education through JCI is impressive and includes high profile leaders such as John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan, Jacques Chirac, and over 50% of the current Japanese government.
Our ‘learning by doing’ ethos enables members to develop their leadership and management skills in a safe and informal environment before applying this knowledge and experience to the workplace to accelerate their career progression. By being actively involved in projects our members share ideas and collaborate with people from different social and professional backgrounds. These efforts help to break down prejudices and build a mutual understanding, while providing opportunities for personal and professional advancement.
Individual Personal Development
JCI Manchester exists to support the personal development of its members. Some of the training events we are planning for this year include; presentation skills, interview techniques, public speaking, Neuro Linguistic programming, How to get the best out of social media, networking sills and much more. All members can attend our monthly training sessions free of charge to acquire new skills or simply brush up on those existing ones. Our trainers have a wealth of experience and it is our members who drive the topics we train, so if there is something that would help you build your skills and confidence then we always want to hear about it.
Business
JCI Manchester works with members and corporate partners to host a programme of topical business events This is an excellent way of getting involved with the commercial side of life in Manchester. We have close links with the Manchester Business School and the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce who often provide us with fabulous speakers and discussion groups. Plans for the future include panel discussions with leading financiers. Presentations on Company strategies in the economic downturn. An audience with several leading professionals in the Manchester business community and much more. In addition we run monthly networking events to give you the opportunity to present your organisation to a wide range of businesses and exchange contact details with potential clients and suppliers.
Community
JCI Manchester is passionate about putting something back into the communities in which live and work. It can be easy to forget that even in a thriving city like Manchester there are many people less fortunate than ourselves. JCI Manchester recognises the importance of young people being active citizens and encourages members to take time to get involved in the community. We have two nominated Charities for the year which are Factor 50 (local Manchester based) and Shelter. Throughout the year we raise funds to support our nominated charities at social and networking events as well as organising specific charity activities such as a sponsored parachute jump!
International
JCI Manchester offers members the opportunity to travel to new and exciting places and to network with fellow members all over the world. All members benefit from training and personal development opportunities at national and international events, including European and World conferences. Bursaries are available to supplement the costs to help members to attend events outside of Manchester.
